Looking At The Big Picture Through The Details

Since 2002, our therapists have been using science-based methods to provide individualized care to promote a better life, increased performance, and improve everyone’s well-being. The methods used by Athletic Edge includes multiple components; Identity, Biomechanics and Posture, Sports Nutrition, Performance Coaching, Sleep Science, and Sports Therapy. One cannot focus only on a single component and expect results without addressing the other four. All six components are intertwined and when one is not functioning properly the rest start to suffer as well. At Athletic Edge we teach athletes how to care for all six components promoting an increase in performance.

The foundation of success starts with you. Who are you? What do you want? What are your short and long term goals? What matters the most to you? Knowing who you are and what you want are the key to achieving your goals. Change and success depend upon you. Achieving top performance starts with you. Let us help you set your foundation to success.

Biomechanics and Posture

Biomechanics is simply defined as how and why the human body moves in a particular way. Our team of sports therapists excels in analyzing the mechanics of movement and creating treatment plans based on the analysis of each individual athlete. Utilizing biomechanics, we can identify appropriate sport therapy techniques to enhance performance, and reduce the risk of injury.

Along with biomechanics, we utilize postural assessment tools to create our individualized treatment plans. Posture is defined as the position in which someone holds his or her body in a static position. With a postural assessment, our team can evaluate which muscles are tight or overcompensating from previous injuries, (biomechanics) or joint misalignments, and how these stresses affect the body’s performance and recovery.

Sports Nutrition

As athletes, we understand that fueling our bodies with the proper nutrition is pertinent in improving performance, increasing energy, and mental stability. Our team utilizes a multi-step program that was created by dietitians to identify the nutritional needs of our athletes. A diet full of proper nutrition is essential to function optimally, but it does not need to be boring or bland. Allow our staff to help you make the right nutritional decisions, and see an improvement in your performance.

Performance Coaching

Athletics is not only a physically trying environment it is also mentally trying. It is easy to focus on the physical aspects of training and overlook the mental, because physical changes and improvements are easy to see, whereas the mental aspects are not. The difference between first and second place could be being mentally prepared for a competition. When athletes start to focus on their mental health, their performance becomes more consistent, they can start to break down barriers to further improvements, remove distractions that impede performance, and developing confidence needed to succeed. Learn how to find and be in the zone, when you need to be at you best!

** Athletic Edge does not provide psychological therapy, and is not staffed with psychologists or doctors. Athletic Edge provides performance coaching in mental skills for improved performance.

You snooze, you win? How many times have you heard, “get a good night’s sleep” before a competition?

Even though most people understand how important sleep is, sleep is typically the aspect of training that is overlooked or pushed to the bottom of the priority list.

Not only is sleep an important component to any training plan, quality in addition to quantity of sleep on a consistent basis is essential to promote the desired results.

There are many studies that explain the consequences of lack of sleep. The staff at Athletic Edge is focusing on studies and research with Stanford University athletes, examining how the extension of quality sleep has a positive outcome on athletic performance.

The staff at Athletic Edge wants to help you to make sleep a priority in your training schedule.
