About Athletic Edge

Who We Are & Our Experience -

Athletic Edge is one of the premiere sports therapy groups in California. Since 2006, Athletic Edge has advanced the application of soft tissue manipulation and massage therapy to compliment the treatments of orthopedic doctors, physical therapists, and athletic trainers from all over the west coast to help injured clients and athletes reach their full potential.  As athletes and sports-minded people, we understand the impact that your chosen sport  or occupation has on your body, and your needs for optimum performance. Through education, research and clinical services, we help active individuals and athletes of all ages and abilities maximize their potential and function at the highest level possible. We are committed to the advancement of athletic performance by developing, testing, and making advanced therapies available to all athletes.  We strongly believe that specific therapies can provide important benefits in recovering from athletic and occupational musculoskeletal/soft-tissue injuries, as well as help to prevent future injuries, and enhance your performance.

Athletic Edge experience combines years of massage experience, including executive planning and execution of therapy for the Tennessee Titans, Country Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, Music City Marathon, Rock N' Roll Marathon, Salt Lake City Olympics, Vanderbilt Athletics, Stanford Athletics, and various NFL teams across the country.  Athletic Edge is staffed with licensed and nationally certified (NCTMB) massage therapists who have a common goal when it comes to client needs: utilizing massage techniques to treat athletic injuries, and also aid in the prevention of future damage to soft tissues. Athletic Edge maintains the highest standards in massage therapy, requiring our therapists to have over 1,200 hours of education, a state and city permit for practicing, and a minimum of 2,000 hours of client experience.  Most of our therapists far exceed these requirements, and they are equipped with extensive clinical experience and thousands of practice hours on their resume. Our certified clinical massage therapists and neuromuscular therapists have been trained in Sports Massage, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy (NMT) and other forms of soft tissue work to provide a variety of therapy options to meet your wellness needs. Each therapist also holds a professional membership with the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).

We treat injuries, orthopedic conditions and athletes and work with sports teams, traveling performers and corporate clients. We also work with auto accident and repetitive strain clients and offer gift certificates.  Our therapists specialize in correcting soft tissue injuries caused by overuse syndromes or structural imbalances which compromise musculo-tendon integrity. It is our goal to provide massage that helps create the ideal environment for the body to heal itself. Our therapists incorporate different techniques designed to increase circulation, improve tendon gliding, and reduce recovery time, and increase muscle and joint range of motion (i.e. flexibility). Consequently, massage therapy can not only alleviate pain suffered from injury, but also lessen or prevent injury re-occurrence. Our therapists have helped people with neck & back pain, herniated discs, nerve pain like sciatica, scoliosis, sports injuries like IT band pain & torn or pulled muscles. We blend deep tissue techniques such as myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy & active release. We'll always educate you about the cause of your pain/discomfort and will provide stretches and exercises for you to do at home.

We’re working together and need you to be an active participant in your care. We also take notes at every session to ensure you are getting results.

We see many clients each week and realize that, not only is everyone different but every session is different. With that in mind, we determine client needs before each session. Some clients enjoy slow gliding strokes to help them relax, and others prefer deep sustained pressure. Sports massage is designed for a specific client, doing specific sports, at specific levels, during specific times of their training season. Whether maintenance or injury-related work, we attempt to hone in on our athlete's goals and needs.

Likewise, clinical issues can be addressed through various modalities and best results are often achieved by employing a combination of techniques. We also discuss posture and other perpetuating factors with our clients. As confident as we are about our work, we know that some clients will never attain their goals if they do not address the issues of posture and mechanical behaviors that contributed to their conditions.
